Group Project

Our group was assigned the task of explaining a memo.  We have all submitted our slides for our portion of the project.  We are putting the finishing touches on the presentation.  Some of the slides need to be a little more direct with the information provided.  We are also finishing up the citation page for our project.  Over spring break we will finish these aspects and put any final touches needed. We will also construct our own flash cards or scripts for how we will explain our slides.

Instructions

DJing 101- How to Mix Two Songs

I will be creating my instructions on how to successfully mix from one song to the next.  These instructions will be geared towards the intermediate DJ who has a general understanding of equipment and basic functions of that equipment. I will be instructing the process using Numark's Ns7fx controller.  Mixing is vital in any scenario because it keeps the party going.  Smooth transitions are key to any Dj set.

DESIGNING DOCUMENTS

Chapter 7 discusses many different considerations when designing a document or web site.  The goals of the document are highlighted through 5 simple steps.  These include making a good impression, easy of navigation, accessibility, clarity, and creating memory.  These goals must be met or exceeded in order to have a successful document.

Planning your design approach is a vital piece of the process.  When creating a document you must have a plan of action.  Your research and approach are critical to its success.  Analyzing your specific audience and having consideration are two key aspects.  Purpose and resources are also very important parts to consider especially for your desired audience.

The reading also describes basic design principles and techniques.  Page layout is crucial to a website or document.  The layout itself must deliver its message without making its audience work for it.  People need to see and understand what they are looking at in a short period of time or you will not have their attention long. Repetition, alignment, layout, proximity, contrast, font, and color are just a few elements that need to be on par within the design.

It is crucial to create a product that will be easily negotiated.  There should be a flow of information.  The main focal points must stand out and the less important information should be secondary.  Mapping of a site or document will make or break its presentation.

First Writing Assignment

For my first writing assignment I have chosen to do an analysis on a flyer I made last year for Thanksgiving Eve.  I believe the flyer itself is to the point but I feel that some extra things could have been added.  I will elaborate on the pros and cons of the layout and overall message it delivers to the general public.  This flyer was constructed on a tight schedule so enhancements could certainly be made.
